Updated Monthly · India Power Sector

India's Grid,
Decoded Daily.

Daily, weekly, and monthly intelligence on India's electricity sector — generation mix, demand trends, renewable capacity, and more. Built for researchers, journalists, and policy minds.

⚡ Overheard at the grid

Five regional grids, one frequency everyone quietly agrees not to mess with, and 1.4 billion people who'd absolutely notice if we got it wrong. We just watch the numbers — with slightly too much enthusiasm.

How Wattfeed works

01
Raw Data Sourced

Official data collected from POSOCO, CEA, MNRE, and NLDC — generation, demand, frequency, and capacity.

Structured source workbook
02
Cleaned & Structured

Data is validated, standardised, and transformed from Excel into structured JSON files ready for automated publishing.

Automated ETL pipeline
03
Auto-Published

A single Python script pushes updated data to GitHub. The site rebuilds and deploys in under 60 seconds.

CI/CD deploy
04
Visualised & Narrated

Interactive charts bring numbers to life. Analysts add context through insight articles published from Markdown files.

The Insight Engine

Coming soon · Agentic intelligence

Insights, written by the data itself.

An AI agent reads the same live dashboard you do — demand, supply, renewables, prices, emissions — and drafts specialised analysis daily. A human editor reviews everything before it's published.

01
Reads Dashboard

The agent ingests the same live JSON feeds that power every chart — demand, supply, renewables, prices, emissions.

02
Detects Signal

Statistical scans flag anomalies, inflection points, and multi-day trends worth writing about.

03
Drafts Article

A grounded first draft is written directly from the underlying numbers — not paraphrased headlines.

Data sources

GRID-INDIA
Grid Controller of India Limited

Formerly POSOCO. Operates the National and Regional Load Despatch Centres, publishing real-time generation, demand met, grid frequency, inter-regional power flows, and energy balance across all five regional grids.

CEA
Central Electricity Authority

India's apex technical authority on power sector planning, under the Ministry of Power. Publishes installed capacity, fuel-wise generation, T&D losses, hydro reservoir levels, and annual growth statistics.

MNRE
Ministry of New & Renewable Energy

The nodal ministry driving India's renewable energy programme. Publishes state-wise solar and wind installation targets, achievements, and cumulative renewable capacity data.

MERIT-INDIA
Merit Order Economic Dispatch

A Ministry of Power platform for transparent, cost-optimised scheduling of thermal power stations. Publishes plant-level merit order, variable cost, and day-ahead despatch data across the generating fleet.

IEX
Indian Energy Exchange

India's largest automated power trading exchange, regulated by CERC. Publishes day-ahead and real-time market clearing prices, traded volumes, and surplus-deficit indicators across states.

CERC
Central Electricity Regulatory Commission

The statutory regulator for India's power sector. Sets tariffs for central generating stations and inter-state transmission, and regulates the grid operators and exchanges this data comes from.

…and a lot more. Behind every chart here sits a small army of official portals, circulars, and the occasional stubbornly-formatted PDF.
